Sountrack composersI. What is a composer?A
composer is a person who creates musical art, usually in the medium of notation which is then interpreted and performed by musicians.
(The term "composer" is often used specifically to mean a composer in the Western tradition of classical music. In popular and folk music, the composer is typically called a songwriter (since the music generally takes the form of a song).)
II. What is a soundtrack?A
sountrack generically refers to the recorded music accompanying and synchronized to a film, a TV show or a video game,
though it literally means the entire audio portion of a film, video or television production, including effects and dialog.
Sometimes, the music has been recorded just for the film or album. Often, but not always, and depending on the type of movie, the soundtrack album will contain portions of the score, music composed for dramatic effect as the movie's plot occurs.
By convention, a soundtrack record can contain all kinds of music including music "inspired by" but not actually appearing in the movie; the score contains only music by the original film's composer(s).
III. What is a score?A film
score is a broad term referring to the music in a film which is generally categorically separated from songs used within a film. The term film score is frequently synonymous with film soundtrack, though a soundtrack may also include the songs used in the film while the score does not. A score is sometimes written specifically to accompany a film, but may also be compiled from previously written musical compositions.
IV. Most famous composersThere are two composers that really touch me, their musics are so beautiful that even without watching the movie, just listening to the music, they make my heart race. Those two composers are: Steve Jablonsky and Clint Mansell. You have probably already heard of them.
1. Steve JablonskySteve Jablonsky (born October 9, 1970) is an American music composer for film, television and video games. He has composed the soundtracks to the movies The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Steamboy (2004), The Island (2005), Transformers (2007), and D-War (2007) was a contributor on Team America World Police (2004) among many others. In addition, he helped compose some of the music to the video game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and composed the theme music in 2003 for the BBC's Seven Wonders of the Industrial World. He continues to write music for the television show Desperate Housewives (2004-current) since the fourth episode .
Steve also wrote the music for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, taking the place of the former Command & Conquer music composer Frank Klepacki, who was unable to write the game's score due to his involvement with Universe at War: Earth Assault.
Jablonsky's most recent projects include the scores for the Michael Bay live action feature film Transformers and the South Korean film D-War. He works in Hans Zimmer's studio Remote Control Productions (formerly known as Media Ventures).
2. Clint MansellClint Mansell (born Clinton Darryl Mansell, 7 January 1963, in Coventry, England) is a Golden Globe-nominated musician and composer and former lead singer and guitarist of Pop Will Eat Itself.
Mansell's score for π was followed up by his score for Aronofsky's next film, Requiem for a Dream, and the score became a cult hit. The trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers contained a rearranged version of the track "Lux Aeterna," utilizing a full orchestra and choir. The piece, named "Requiem for a Tower", was made just for the trailer. The orchestration was arranged by Simone Benyacar, Dan Nielsen, and Veigar Margeirsson.
"Lux Aeterna" has since become extremely popular, with both the original and the orchestration having appeared in a wide variety of commercials and trailers, including the trailer for the Red Sox-Yankee games in the 2007 baseball season, and trailers for the films Zathura, The Da Vinci Code, Sunshine and the TV series Lost. It is also used on Sky Sports News and as the theme for Soccer Saturday.
Other notable achievements include the theme for the film The Hole, the music for the pilot episode of CSI: NY, and the score for Aronofsky's latest film The Fountain, which was nominated for Best Original Score in the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards.[1] Mansell has most recently contributed the score to HBO's Voyeur. The song was also used as the base theme for the song "Throw It Up" by the hip hop artist Lil Jon.
Clint has garnered an immense cult following for his soundtrack work, so much that Smokin' Aces director Joe Carnahan admits to receiving "blatant threats" when the soundtrack was released without much of Mansell's score for the film. This led to releasing a platinum edition soundtrack which is all of Clint's music. The album included the following insert explaining the situation:
His song was also featured in a trailer for the 2007 film I Am Legend.
[Who doesn't know the Requiem For a Dream theme by Clint Mansell? No one! And so you know, he did the wonderful sountrack of the movie abandon staring our Charlie Hunnam!]____________________________
